A Monika Caha Selections Brand
ANDAU is a line of full-bodied wines from the town Andau, which has more sunny days and warmer temperatures than anywhere else in Austria. Located on the Hungarian border, the climate is perfect for making very ripe and bold red and dessert wines.
After the success of GROONER & ZVY-GELT, we decided to add another fun yet well crafted wine, this time from the Burgenland. We teamed up with Erich Scheiblhofer, one of Austria’s most successful red wine producers to create ANDAU. His unique style of winemaking produces unusually full-bodied wines at a value price level. Inspired by the region, which was part of Hungary until 1921, we designed eye-catching labels and cartons with photos of local characters past and present in traditional garb, but with a modern twist.
We have started with two Zweigelts [TSVY-GELT], the number one red wine grape of Austria. ANDAU Zweigelt is approachable and affordable, and the label features two current town musicians-Horst and Janosch-in full costume. ANDAU Zweigelt Matthias Peck is a high end, refined and complex wine, named after the winemaker’s great-grandfather, who in the early 20th century was the Andau town matchmaker. In 2012, we will add ANDAU Spätlese of Traminer and Welschriesling in 750ml.
